“We know that many of the dogs that attacked our guests belong to water sports operators who use the dogs to guard their equipment at night,” he said.

その水上スポーツ設備の夜間中の見張り用に犬を飼っているのだが、それらの犬が野犬化して 朝のビーチ散歩中の観光客に噛みつく という事件が複数回 発生した。

Since last year, hoteliers along the beach had reported eight dog attacks on their guests to local authorities, with one attack on Oct 8 resulting in the victim receiving four stitches and two anti-tetanus jabs. The last known attack was on Feb 7.

昨年から今年の2月までの間に 8件の被害報告が出されており、危ない目にはあったが 噛まれるまでには至らなかった ということで報告を出していないケースも含まれば 二桁台 になるかもしれない。

そして とうとう トリップアドバイザーに レビューアーの一人のオーストラリア人からは バト・フェリンギの評価基準を 星マークが一つにしているレビューをもらってしまったのだ。

The attack that earned Batu Ferringhi a one-star review was titled “Avoid until the(y) remove stray dogs”.

The reviewer, Australian Jacalyn Leah M, described three dogs lunging at her partner who was walking along the shoreline in November.

Leah recommended that tourists stay away from “Batu Ferringhi beach and possibly hotels until the council addresses the issue and re­­moves stray dogs from the area”.

自治体が この野犬対策を講じるまでは バト・フェリンギビーチには近づかない方が良いですよ というコメントつきだ。

こういうコメントと 最低評価の星ひとつ のレビューが トリップアドバイザーに公開されてしまうと、ビーチ沿いのリゾートホテルとしては 商売に影響が出るので 困るのだろう。

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa communications director Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman said the dog attacks were brought up time and again but there seems to be no solution in sight.

私も一か月ほど前に シャングリラホテルに滞在したのだが、その時はビーチには行かずに ホテルのプールサイドで過ごした。

だから 野犬には気づかなかったが、朝のビーチ散歩を楽しみたい人にとっては 犬がうろつき 吠えかかってくるのは 恐ろしいことだ。
