友人が 「香港では 旅行者でも簡単に銀行口座を開設できる 」と言っていた。
だから「 Gary も 資金を 日本・マレーシア以外にも 分散したらどうか」 とアドバイスしてくれた ことがある。
でも 私には 分散するほどの資金はない ので、香港での銀行口座開設のことは 聞き流していた。
どこの国でも 銀行口座の開設にあたっては ( 非居住者預金は別として) 通常の預金口座の開設をするには 居住証明(住民票)などの提示を求められるのが普通だ。
それなのに 香港では 旅行者でも通常の銀行口座を簡単に開設できる という友人の話は ホンマかいな と話半分に聞いていた。
Can I open a bank account as a non-resident?
Hong Kong is a transient city, and most of its residents are temporary. Because of this, opening a basic current account is as easy as it gets, even if you’re a tourist.
The process is especially simple for EU, American and Australian passport holders; who can open an account almost immediately. For other nationalities, the process can take up to 2 weeks to complete.
What documents do I need?
Broadly speaking, you’ll need the following documents in order to open an account:
Your official ID, such as a passport or a HK ID card;
Proof of address, such as a utility bill, a bank statement or a mobile phone bill (less than 3 months old),
If you don’t have a Hong Kong address, proof of your home address (you can also use a relative’s or friend’s address);
A valid visa

更に 驚いたことには こんなことまで書いてある。
That said, you can open a bank account remotely, before you arrive, if your home bank has a presence in Hong Kong.
In fact, it’s advisable to do so, as the process is much simpler. Your local branch in your home country will help you complete the necessary paperwork and send everything to the Hong Kong branch. You’ll need to do this at least 30 days before your departure.
Once you arrive in Hong Kong, just visit your new branch to confirm your identity and your account should be up and running within 15 to 20 days.
私からは詳しくは聞かなかったし、友人もそれ以上のことは言わなかったが、多分 友人自身、 資産分散として 香港の銀行口座に預金を持っているのだろう。
最近の香港デモの影響で 香港に流入していたマネーがシンガポールに逃避し始めている というニュースを読んだ。

日本でも マレーシアでも 大手銀行なら ドルなどの外貨預金ができる。
預金口座の通貨を分散させる ということだけなら 何も香港で銀行口座を開設する必要はない。
それどころか 今回の香港デモのようなことがあり、これが更にエスカレートすると 香港の銀行口座から 資金を移動させる手間がかかる。
香港プロテスト の動向だが、警官による発砲など 事態は悪化していく方向にあるが、下記記事にあるように 香港経済をターゲットにした抗議活動がドンドンとエスカレートしていくと 警官あるいは軍による制圧も激しさを増すことになるだろう。

今のところ 中国本土系の銀行がターゲットにされており 外資系銀行は被害を受けていないものの、抗議活動が激化すれば 何がどうなるか 分かったものじゃない。

分散投資というものは 政情の安定している国で行うことが前提になる。
この点 マレーシアは 合格点だ。

香港マネーが マレーシアにも流れ込んで 不動産が値上りすることになるのだろうか。
ジョホールバルのフォレストシティプロジェクトでの売れ残り物件(ゴーストタウン化)も 在庫一掃になり、KL や ペナン の高級コンドミニアムも値上がり 、、、ということになるんだろうか。。。？？？？
